After conducting a review of the nearly 23,000 catalog records for the QRC library materials, we’ve identified approximately 5,000 items that we wish to retain, most of which will end up in the QRC space in Johnson Hall, with a portion being transferred to the UW Libraries, where they will be properly catalogued and made available to the UW community and beyond.
Here’s the more specific breakdown for the materials we are retaining:
- 21 Bibliographies
- 1324 Maps
- 1319 Monographs (some of which will go to UW Libraries)
- 52 Russian Serials (48 of which are going to UW Libraries)
- 152 Russian Monographs (52 of which are going to UW Libraries)
- 280 Theses
- The full run of QR and a selection of other periodicals still TBD
- Over 600 reprints (Some have asked to look at these; we won’t necessarily be keeping them all)
- Approximately 1,000-1,500 serials (some of which will go to UW Libraries)
Although we were unable to find any outside organizations who could accept the remaining materials as a donation, we are pleased to be holding onto nearly a quarter of the QRC’s holdings. We’d like to thank everyone who participated in the review process, as your knowledge of the collections was instrumental in preserving more of them.
Lastly, for those who were interested in looking at some of the reprints or would like to adopt any of the materials that are designated for discarding, please reach out to Sara (gonzalsa@uw.edu) as soon as possible to arrange for access.
